NCMC Class Helps With TAG Production
Members of Dr. Vicki Wheeler’s “Introduction to Theater” classes are participating in a service learning project in conjunction with the Trenton Acting Guild’s production of “Moon Over Buffalo.”
The students worked together to create the sets for the two-act comedy, which will be presented this weekend at the Hoover Theater.
“Audiences seldom realize the challenges of putting a show together,” Dr. Wheeler said. “Working on the set gives students a first-hand experience with the abstract concepts they are studying in their theater class. That’s one of the benefits of service learning.”
Class members who put together the set were Tiffany Daniels of Hamilton, Demetrius Dumas of Miami, FL, Melanie McCollum of Linneus, Amber Carpenter of Trenton, Jeannie Hamilton of Mt. Moriah, Jane Fordyce of Ridge-way and Katie Schmaltz and Lacey Hayes of Chillicothe.
Candessa Williams of Gallatin painted one of the settings for the show, a posh hotel in the south of France.
Another class member will plan an important backstage role during the running of the production as Aaron Stains of St. Joseph will be the light and sound technician. Other students worked on the promotion of the show by making flyers, the program and writing news stories. They were Rachel Hall of Newtown and Caleb Bardwell of Hamilton.
“Moon Over Buffalo” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21. The play is sponsored by the Grundy County Friends of the Arts. Tickets are available at Total Entertainment. There is no charge for Friends of the Arts season ticketholders and NCMC students. The cost for all others is $5 and reserve seating is available.
