John L. Maxwell, a 90-year-old resident of Grove, OK, died on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004 at Grove.
Graveside services were held on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004 at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove. The Grove Veterans Ritual Team officiated.
Mr. Maxwell was born on April 6, 1914 in Harrison County, the son of Thomas W. and Gilly Mae Higdon Maxwell. He attended school at the Stephens School in Harrison County. As a young man he worked as an engineer at the Melbourne coal mine. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked for the city of Grove as water superintendent for 35 years, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Maxwell was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
For the last few years he had spent much of his time with his two sisters, Minerva Brown of Gilman City and Grace Brown of Trenton.
Survivors in this area include his sisters, Minerva Brown and Grace Brown; Grace’s daughters, Charlene, Kay and Janet; a nephew, Clyde Maxwell of Excelsior Springs, and his children, James, Maxine and Sharon; and a sister-in-law, Eva Maxwell of Marshall, and her daughter, Marsha.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James Maxwell, Leland Maxwell, Eugene Maxwell and Joseph Henry Maxwell; and a sister, Evie Maxwell.
