Fire Department Receives Grant
The Trenton Fire Department has been notified that it is a recipient of an Assistance to Firefighters Grant through the Department of Homeland Security.
According to a news release from U.S. Senators Jim Talent and Kit Bond, the grant is for $84,124, with a $9,300 city match. Trenton Fire Chief Tony Ralston said the funds will be used to purchase a mobile live fire training trailer, which will realistically simulate the conditions in a live home fire, allowing firefighters to be trained in hose handling, fire suppression techniques and active heat and smoke conditions. Ralston said the trailer will be part of a new training site, located on 15 acres in the north part of Trenton. Rappelling towers are being constructed at the site, which will eventually have several items that can be used to help train area firefighters. Ralston said the Fire Act is providing funds that are desperately needed by small departments.
?As a local fire chief of a small rural community, I believe the Fire Act is the best thing that has happened with the fire service,? said Ralston. ?This grant process gets the money to the departments that have needed equipment for years. The Fire Act will continue to help local departments to better serve their respective communities.?
