The Economic Development Committee of the Trenton City Council is asking that discussions re-open in regard to hiring an individual to fill the city’s community developer position.
City Administrator Kerry Sampson said the committee voted on Monday night to ask the Administrative Committee to revive talks in regard to the position following a discussion with Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce officials, who have indicated plans to include the duties of an events coordinator into those of the new chamber executive when an individual is hired to fill that role. The Administrative Committee had tabled action on the community developer’s position while discussions were being held on establishment of an events coordinator position. Sampson said that Chamber Board President John Woodrich said it is the chamber’s intent to have the duties of events coordinator become a part of the new chamber executive’s job. The chamber is currently advertising for the position following the resignation of Vickie Shoots, who is leaving the chamber this week.
Sampson said the city is anxious to continue to work closely with the chamber in regard to activities being held in the community, making sure both entities are “on the same page.” He said it is the city’s hope that the new chamber executive and the community developer, when hired, can work together to move the community forward “in a positive manner.”
The vote on the community developer was 4-0 with Troy Smith, Jackie Soptic, Kenneth Ewing and Gary Hurst in favor. Larry Crawford was absent.
