Richard E. ?Dick? Callen, Sr., an 88-year-old resident of Princeton died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2004 at the Princeton First Baptist Church. Pastor Guy Olin Thomas and Pastor Richard E. Key will officiate, under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton. Burial will be in the Princeton Cemetery.

A general visitation is scheduled for 8 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at the funeral home, where a family visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Mr. Callen was born Dec. 1, 1915 in Mill Grove, the son of Clarence Walter and Mary Foster Callen.

He was married to Helen Rae Black in Unionville on Nov. 9, 1935. She survives him of the home.

A lifelong resident of Mercer County, Mr. Callen was a salvage dealer in Princeton for several years and he and his wife owned and operated the school buses for the Princeton R-5 School District for 12 years. He also had worked for the Wilcox Quarries in Trenton for many years and later was an employee and manager of the Martin-Marietta Quarry in Princeton for nine years. He retired at the age of 75.

Mr. Callen was a member of the Princeton Christian Church and had most recently been affiliated with the Princeton First Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Callen is survived by a son, Richard Callen, Jr., and his wife, Mary of Marshall; two daughters, Carol Joyce ?Puddy? Banks of Princeton and Linda Cooksey and her husband, Robert, of Trenton; six grandchildren including Tammy Burgess and her husband David, Cory Cooksey, and Cassy Wanstreet and her husband Jeff, all of Trenton; Kim Rowlette and her husband Ed of Smithton; Steve Banks and his wife Amanda of Grain Valley; and Mike Banks and his wife Lynn of Calera, OK; 16 great-grandchildren including Megan Burgess, Carly and Kennedy Wanstreet, and Calvin Cooksey, all of Trenton; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Verine Plattenburg; and two brothers, Harold and Ernest Callen.
