The Trenton High School girls golf team held on to finish in the top five of the Class 1 MSHSAA Golf Championships for the fifth time in the past 10 years.

The Lady Bulldog finished in fourth position with a team score of 366-377-743, earning the THS girls a plaque for their efforts.

?We were very excited to place fourth,? Head Coach Ann Constant said. ?Heading down to the championships, placing in the top four was our goal and we accomplished that.?

Pembroke Hill took first place overall with a team score of 355-334-689. Visitation Academy shaved 24 strokes off its first-day score to jump from fifth to second with a 366-342-708. Chillicothe placed third with a score of 364-359-723.

The Lady Bulldogs had a pair of golfer place in the top 15 individually, which earned them medals.

Junior Cassie Murphy finished in 14th place with a two-day score of 91-87-178.

?Cassie just really seemed to have it all together. She played well on the first day,? Constant said. ?A 91 on that course is a good score, but then she came back and improved four strokes, which is great. I know on the first day the wind really affected Cassie. She hits a high ball and the wind really blew her ball around.?

Senior Brittany Swank tied for 15th place and picked up an individual medal. She carded a two-round score of 88-91-179.

?I was really proud of both girls for placing. I know going down (to the tournament) Brittany really wanted to medal, so it was great for her to reach that goal,? Constant said. ?Brittany really played very well. She just had a couple of holes each day where she struggled. Overall, she had an outstanding senior tournament.?

Senior Annie Hooker ran into some trouble on the second day. She finished with with a 87-105-192 and finished in 40th place.

?I know Annie was very upset after her round on Tuesday. She had a couple of bad holes and just couldn?t seem to get past that,? Constant said. ?Sometimes it?s hard to come back and play as well on the second day of a two-day tournament. Like I told Annie, though, we could not have placed in the top four if it had not been for her 87 on Monday.?

Senior Sheena Perry finished the tournament tied for 42nd. Perry carded a score of 100-96-194.

?Sheena was disappointed with her score on Monday. She shot the same score on the back nine on Tuesday, but really came back and played the front nine much better,? Constant said. ?She finished the front nine with a 45, which was much better.”

Constant noted that the team had a lot of support while at the tournament.

?I was so pleased to see all the people that made that long trip to Springfield,? Constant said. ?I know the girls really appreciated those people when they received their plaque and medals.?
