Projects Designed To Help Food Pantry
Although there is always a need throughout the year, the fall and winter seem to put a strain on the resources provided by the Community Food Pantry at Trenton.
In an effort to replenish supplies in time for the holiday season, several organizations are planning activities to help with this worthwhile project. An average of 82 families, or 985 individuals, have emergency food needs each month and while $12,159.31 in cash donations were received, the need continues to exist for additional funding as well as food and other non-perishable items. A total of 417 families received some type of assistance from the food pantry during the past fiscal year.
The first of the assistance projects will be held at the Trenton AMS Mall, which is planning an auction on Saturday to help raise funds for the food pantry. The auction will get under way at 10 a.m. and feature a variety of items that have been donated for the sale. Persons wanting to contribute additional items to help raise funds may leave them at the Green Hills Community Action Agency at 1506 Oklahoma Ave. In addition, four barrels have been placed on the first floor of the mall for persons to leave non-perishable items and containers for donations are also located in each of the mall businesses.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Trenton are joining forces to collect food on Saturday, Nov. 6 as part of the Scouting for Food project. Tags will be left on doors throughout the community on Saturday, Oct. 30, explaining the procedures for picking up food, which will be collected the following Saturday.
The Trenton Ambassadors will collect food and other non-perishable items on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Hy-Vee Food Store and Piggly Wiggly.
Persons can also leave items at the food pantry during regular hours, Monday through Friday.
