Ward Oliver Putnam, an 87-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was a long-time resident of Mercer County.

Ward Oliver Putnam, an 87-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was a long-time resident of Mercer County.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 at the Princeton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery, northwest of Princeton. Arrangements are under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton.

General visitation will begin at 9 a.m., with a family visitation scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Putnam was born Dec. 23, 1916 northwest of Princeton, the son of Elza and Ruth Stratton Putnam. He graduated from Pleasant Hill Rural School and was a Mercer County farmer, living many years only a short distance from the place of his birth. He also worked for Lindley Township, helping to build many of the roads. He enjoyed raising watermelons, fox hunting, hand fishing in the rivers, playing baseball and listening to the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church.

He was married on Dec. 5, 1938 to Normal Helen Oder, who survives him of the home.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Putnam is survived by four daughters, Joyce Mason and her husband, Richard, of Placerville, CA, Janet Divono and her husband, Gus, of Holt Summit, Geneva Parsons and her husband, Eudean, of Cainsville, and Gale Stoklasa and her husband, Bill, of Eagleville, TN; two sons, Allen Putnam and his wife, Sandra, of Blaine, MN, and Roger Putnam and his wife, Marcia, of Chillicothe; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis Putnam and his wife Mary, of Grandview two sisters, Hollis Skroh of Trenton, and Betty Hagan and her husband Lloyd, of Des Moines, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur Putnam and an infant; and three sisters, Doris Constable, Maxine Hanahan and Phyllis Jones.
