Buddy and Karla Hannaford have been announced as grand marshals for the 2004 Missouri Day Festival Parade, set for Saturday, Oct. 16.
The Hannafords are the original organizers of the Missouri Day Marching Band Festival, which began in 1997 and continues to be the showcase event of the Missouri Day Festival. Many of the bands that participate in the marching festival also take part in the Missouri Day Festival Parade, making it one of the largest area marching festivals.
The parade is scheduled to kickoff at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 and will include marching bands, floats, old-time vehicles, clowns, politicians and horses. The parade traditionally has over 100 entries and this year’s event is expected to be no exception.
Entries are being accepted until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at which time members of the Trenton Rotary Club, which organizes the parade, will be setting up this year’s lineup. Persons who call in an entry will be asked to give the name of the organization, the name of the person making the entry and a telephone number so that persons can be contacted about their position in the parade. The telephone calls will be made on Wednesday night so the telephone number should be for an individual who can be contacted on that evening.
Trophies will be awarded in 13 categories, including Best Youth Float, Most Creative Youth Entry, Best organizational Float, Best Business Float, Spirit of Missouri Days, Spirit of Missouri Day Past, Best Horse and Rider-Youth, Best Matched Horses, Best Dressed Saddle Club, Best Dressed Adult Rider, Best Antique Car, Best Classic Car and Oldest Farm Tractor.
Businesses, organizations and individuals wanting to make an entry can call the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce. While there is no charge for general entries into the parade, political entries will be charged a fee of $25, payable prior to the parade. Those funds will be used to help defray the costs for the parade. Money can be left at the chamber office and checks should be made out to the Trenton Rotary Club.
The parade will start at the intersection of Main Street and Crowder Road, at which point bands participating in the parade will enter for the parade competition. The parade will continue down Main Street to Ninth, turning east and continuing to Eastside Park. Bands competing in other parts of the band festival will leave the parade route at Normal Street.
For additional information about the parade, persons can contact Rick Klinginsmith or Tom Witten.
