A scheme designed to gain personal information has been reported in Missouri and in other areas across the country.
According to information provided by the Grundy County Clerk?s Office, persons have reported being contacted by telephone by subjects who indicate they are attempting to either correct or update voter registration information or who are indicating that the person is no longer registered to vote. The caller then attempts to get the person?s name, date of birth, address and social security number, presumably to re-register or update the voter registration files.
The county clerk?s office said they are not and will not be making calls in an attempt to register county residents to vote. Although no reports of such activity has been reported in Grundy County, anyone who receives a call of this sort should not provide any personal information as it could be used in an identity theft scheme.
