The 2004 Calamity Jane Day celebration is scheduled for Sept. 18-19 in Princeton.
Events scheduled for Saturday include the Nancy Shew 5K Walk, the Rotary Club breakfast, a baby contest, the Little Miss Calamity Jane and Little Wild Bill competition, the children?s parade and bandstand entertainment featuring Ruthie Holt, Gary Elder, The Ambassadors and Cheap Guitars. A parade is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the melodrama, ?The Villain Wore a Dirty Shirt,? being presented at 2, 4, 6 and 8 p.m. The Shoot-Out Gang will present performances at 11 a.m. and 2 and 4:30 p.m. A teen dance, featuring the band Nocturnal, is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Food concessions, crafters, a flea market and old time photos will be available throughout the day.
A golf tournament and car show are scheduled on Sunday, with a 2 p.m. performance of the melodrama and an afternoon performance by the band, the Homewreckers, also planned.
A new event, the Mercer County Bake Off, is planned this year on Saturday. The event is open to everyone and entrants do not have to be a resident of Mercer County to participate. Contestants can register at the southeast corner of the bandstand between 10 a.m. and noon.
There will be five categories, including pies, cakes, cookies, sweet breads and yeast breads. Winners will be chosen in two age groups, including 15 years and older and 14 years and younger. Entrants must furnish two of each of their entries, with one item to be used for tasting and one items being used for judging appearance. The items in the appearance category will be auctioned right after the parade.
Prizes will be awarded for the Best of Show and a first-, second- and third-place prize in each of the age categories. For more information about the bake off, persons may contact Georgetta Young at 660-748-3909.
