Several events are planned for the THS Alumni Weekend, scheduled Sept. 3-5.
Activities get under way on Friday, Sept. 3 with a hospitality mixer at the Riverside Country Club, beginning at 6 p.m. All alumni are invited and dues of $10 can be paid at that time.
Registration and an open house, hosted by the THS Class of 1959, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at the high school. Trenton alumnus Phillip Dolan will be at the reception to discuss his new book, “A Handsome Guy,” which details the events leading up to and including the Battle of Okinawa during World War II. He was inspired to write the book by stories told to him by his uncle, Jack Dolan.
An all-alumni dance is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Elks Lodge ($10 per person and $15 per couple) and the Class of 1974 will host a dance from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Trenton AMS Mall (admission is $10 per person). The alumni brunch will be at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5 in the high school commons, with the business meeting and election of officers at 12:30 p.m.
An open house to honor Nanette Turner Carter, who served as cheerleader coach, tumbling club coach, GAA sponsor and pep squad sponsor, will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4 at the home of Judy Hammond Schlarb and is sponsored by the THS Class of 1959. Mrs. Carter, who now resides in the Savannah area, was a teacher in the Trenton School District from 1953 to 1959.
Individual class activities being held on Saturday include:
Classes of 1934, 1935 & 1936 – lunch at the Lakeview Restaurant, 11 a.m. Spouses of deceased class members invited.
Class of 1937 – Lakeview Restaurant, 8 a.m.
Class of 1938 – Lakeview Restaurant, 1 p.m.
Class of 1939 – Catered meal at Aquila community room, noon.
Class of 1941 – Registration at the First Christian Church fellowship hall, noon; meal to follow at 1 p.m.
Class of 1942 – Luncheon at IOOF Lodge, noon.
Class of 1943 – Breakfast at Lakeview Restaurant, 9 a.m.
Class of 1947 – Dinner at Lakeview Restaurant, 6:30 p.m.
Classes of 1949 – Class will meet at the First Baptist Church (back door basement) with social hour at 11 a.m., pictures at 11:30 a.m., entertainment before noon and lunch at noon.
Classes of 1950 – Class will meet at the First Baptist Church for lunch.
Class of 1951 – Come and go event at Pleasant View R-6 School, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m.
Class of 1953 – Casual get-together at home of Sonna Wiggins, 407 Town and Country Lane, 6 p.m.
Class of 1954 – Dinner at Trenton Senior Center, 6 p.m.; dance at 9 p.m.
THS Class of 1959 – Dinner at the Lakeview Restaurant, 6 p.m.
Class of 1964 – Dinner at the Sugg Room in the Ketcham Community Center, social at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m.
Class of 1969 – Moberly Park enclosed shelterhouse, 5 p.m. Barbecue by classmate K.D. Whitt.
Class of 1974 – Dinner at Trenton AMS gym at 6 p.m., followed by a dance with DJ at 9 p.m.
Class of 1979 – Catered meal at Elks Lodge, 5 p.m.
Class of 1984 – All-class dance at Elks Lodge. The class will also have the registration at Riverside Country Club on Friday evening and a Dutch treat breakfast at Lakeview Restaurant 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Class of 1989 – Walking trail bench dedication at 5 p.m. (meet at high school parking lot), followed by dinner at Trenton AMS community room at 6 p.m. A class get-together will be held on Friday night at Snappy’s and a family get-together will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Moberly Park.
Class of 1994 – Get-together at Gladys Grimes Park, 4 to 8 p.m. (bring fingerfoods and lawn chairs).
Classes are reminded to turn in their alumni news for inclusion in the Republican-Times on Tuesday, Sept. 7. While the office will be closed for the Labor Day holiday, information can be left in the foyer of the newspaper office on Monday.
There will be a public dedication of the newly-renovated THS tennis courts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by exhibition matches.
THS alumnus Jim Norris will be recognized with a reception at the Trenton AMS Mall at 1 p.m. on Sunday, at which time a mural Norris painted on the second floor of the building will be formally dedicated. The public is invited to attend.
In addition, the Grundy County Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, Sunday, Sept. 5 and Monday, Sept. 6.
