While enrollment trends continued downward in area schools, the Trenton R-9 School District saw a big jump in student numbers after a similar drop just one year ago.
A total of 1,203 students reported to classes at Trenton this morning, which is up 42 students from last year. The biggest gain was noted at Rissler Elementary School, where 458 students were enrolled as of this morning, an increase of 31. There were four more students at the Trenton Middle School, which had 366 students, while the high school added seven more students from last year as 379 reported to class this morning.
Of the four other schools starting classes today, only Tri-County R-7 at Jamesport saw an increase in students. Spickard R-2, Princeton R-5 and Harrison County R-4 at Gilman City all had small enrollment decreases.
The largest class was in the R-9 School District was the ninth grade with 108. Second grade is the smallest class with just 76 students. There are 103 in kindergarten.
The Trenton R-9 enrollment, by grades, includes 103, kindergarten; 89, first grade; 76, second grade; 95, third grade; 95, fourth grade; 89, fifth grade; 90, sixth grade; 95, seventh grade; 92, eighth grade; 108, ninth grade; 97, 10th grade; 83, 11th grade; and 91, 12th grade.
Tri-County’s enrollment was at 206 students, which was up 13 students from a year ago. Spickard, Harrison County R-4 at Gilman City and Princeton R-5 all saw decreases in their enrollment, with Spickard having 47 students (-7), Harrison County having 121 students (-5) and Princeton having 386 (-1).
