Russell Lee Evans Sr., a 75-year-old resident of Savannah, died on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Rev. Bryan Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairley Cemetery, north of Princeton.

A family visitation will be held from 7 to 9 o’clock tonight (Monday, Aug. 16, 2004) at the funeral home.

Mr. Evans was born on Aug. 17, 1928 in Chillicothe, the son of R.L. and Mary Haskett Evans. He was a graduate of Princeton High School and had lived in Mill Grove, Bethany, New Hampton and St. Joseph. before moving to Houston, TX in 1974. He moved to Savannah in 2001. He was a building construction superintendent and had worked for Thomas Construction in St. Joseph for many years. He was a member of the International Bricklayers Union, the Elks Club and the Eagles Lodge.

He was married on on Feb. 25, 1946 to Sarah Brown, who preceded him in death in 1977. He was then married on May 7, 1978 to Bobbye Hardin, who preceded him in death in March 2004.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Fuston and her husband, Gary, of Easton, and Kathy Krull and her husband, Jake, of Savannah; four sons, Allen, Randy and Tony Evans of Savannah and Russell Lee Evans Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Independence; a sister, Sonia McHargue of Frankfurt, IL; a brother, Larry Evans of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jennifer Leigh Evans.

The family suggests memorials to the Kendallwood Hospice in St. Joseph.
