The Princeton R-5 and Newtown-Harris boards of education held meetings Monday evening, setting the tax rate levy, approving handbooks and accepting bids.

Princeton

The Princeton R-5 School Board approved its tax levy and re-hired the Stacy Center manager.

Superintendent Alan Hamilton reported that the board set its 2004-2005 tax levy at $4.4590 on the $100 assessed valuation, which is an increase over last year?s rate, which was $4.4192. The Annual Secretary of the Board Report was approved and the board re-adopted its Conflict of Interest Policy as required by the Missouri Ethics Commission. Also approved was the elementary student handbook and the disposal sale of surplus property.

In personnel items, the board approved the re-employment of Kristi Cutsinger as manager of the Stacy Center, with no change in salary.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 13.

Newtown-Harris

The Newtown-Harris Board set its tax levy and set lunch prices during its meeting.

According to information provided by Superintendent Andy Anderson, the board set the tax levy at $5 on the $100 assessed valuation, which includes $4.95 for the incidental fund and $.05 for capital projects.

The board approved the bus routes, which have changed from three routes to two routes. The drivers will be Linda Hague, Tim Cool and Ron Hall.

Bids were accepted from Milan Propane at 90 cents, with a milk bid from Anderson Erickson. Milk will be increased by five cents for milk and four cents for other dairy products.

Breakfast and lunch prices were approved for the school year. Breakfast prices are as follows: 80 cents for students in grades kindergarten through six; 90 cents for students in grades seven through 12; $1.75 for adults; 30 cents for reduced price breakfast; and 25 cents for extra milk. Lunch prices are as follows: $1.25 for students in grades kindergarten through six; $1.40 for students in grades seven through 12; $2 for adults; 40 cents for reduced price lunch; and 25 cents for extra milk.

In other business, the board approved the discipline policy, computer usage policy and student handbooks for the 2004-2005 school year and approved board policy updates and the 2004-2005 testing calendar. It was announced that the district?s E-Rate for the 2004-2005 school year is $3,582.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13.
