William R. “Bill” Landes, a 74-year-old resident of Jamesport, died on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at his home near Jamesport.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Jamesport. Burial will be at the Pilot Grove No. 2 Cemetery near Jamesport.

General visitation begins at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004 at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport, where a family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mr. Landes was born on July 8, 1930 in Jamesport, the son of Linn Stewart and Mary Louise McCray Landes. He graduated from Jamesport High School in 1948. He served in the Army for two years, returning to the Jamesport area to farm. He was married in May 1957 in Kansas City to Twilah Edwards, who survives of the home. The couple lived their entire life in the Jamesport area. Mr. Landes worked for the Standard Oil Company in Jamesport for 17 years and in 1961, after the death of his father, he owned and operated Landes Oil Company for 44 years.

Mr. Landes was a member of the Jamesport Lions Club, the Jamesport Masonic Lodge, the Moila Shrine and the Jamesport United Methodist Church. He was a member of the board of directors of the Home Exchange Bank in Jamesport.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, William Scott Landes of Jamesport, David Ray Landes of Trenton and Greg Stewart Landes of Jamesport; one sister, Rosemary Stout and her husband, Harold, of Jamesport; and three grandchildren, Aaron David Landes, Stephanie Sue Landes-Drake and Zalie Landes.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
