Nightly entertainment, livestock shows, a parade and carnival highlight the North Central Missouri Fair, which gets under way on Tuesday, Aug. 3 and continues through Sunday, Aug. 8.

A dog show kicks off the week’s events at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. There will be 10 classes of judging.

“Land of the Free, Home of the Brave” is the theme of this year’s parade, which gets under way at 6 p.m. and will follow the route from 12th and Harris Avenue to 17th Street, continuing west to Main Street, where it will turn south to Ninth Street before turning back east and continuing to the Eastside Park area. Entries for the parade are currently being accepted at the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce office until 5 p.m. on Friday. Prizes will be awarded in several categories.

The grandstand entertainment will feature Spike Blake and Earthquake, beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children ages 12 and under. In case of rain, the show will be moved to the Trenton High School gym.

The Trenton FFA Boosters will hold their annual whole hog barbecue that evening as well, with serving to begin immediately after the parade at the cook shack. The cost is $5 per plate.

Wednesday’s schedule begins at 8:30 a.m. with the pee wee swine show, followed by the regular swine show at 9 a.m. Champions and showmanship award winners will be announced at the conclusion of the show.

A truck and tractor pull will be the featured entertainment at the grandstand, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children ages five and under.

A goat show kicks off events on Thursday at 10 a.m., followed by the dairy show (including bucket calves) at 1 p.m. Champions will be announced at the conclusion of each of the show.

The evening entertainment will be bullriding at 8 o’clock at the grandstand. There will be a children’s event at 7 o’clock. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children ages five and under.

Ladies lead competition will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, followed by the pee wee sheep show at 10:30 a.m. and the regular sheep show. Winners will be announced after each show.

The grandstand entertainment will feature an ATV and motorcycle race at 7 p.m. Sign-in will be from 4 to 6 p.m. with a fee of $10 per rider. Pit passes are available at $10. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages six to 12 and free for children ages five and under.

The beef bucket calf show begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the beef breeding and steer shows. The winners will be announced at the conclusion of the steer show.

The horse show will also be held on Saturday at the North Central Missouri Saddle Club grounds, beginning at 10 a.m. Judging will be done in 18 classes.

The Grundy County United Way will be sponsoring a baby show on Saturday at the Trenton AMS auditorium. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with judging to begin at 9 a.m. There is a $5 entry fee per child. Classes include both girls and boyos ages 0 to 6 months, 7 months to one year, one to two years and two to three years. Trophies and ribbons will be awarded.

The demolition derby will take place at the grandstand at 7 p.m., with drivers to sign up by 6 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages six to 12 and free for children ages five and under. Pit passes are available for $15.

There is also entertainment scheduled for Sunday, with a mudfest at 2 p.m. in the grandstand area. Participants should sign-in no later than 1 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages six to 12 and free for children ages five and under.

Prior to the fair, youth exhibit entries will be accepted at the Rock Barn from 8 a.m. to noon. Fine arts exhibits will also be accepted on Monday and Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the fine arts area of the courtyard. Floriculture entries will be accepted from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Rock Barn.

United Expositions, Inc. is providing the carnival rides. Arm Band Night is scheduled from 6 to 11 p.m. on Tuesday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Arm bands are currently available for $12, allowing unlimited rides during those two times. They can be purchased by 3 p.m. on Tuesday from the Republican-Times, KTTN, US Bank, Farmers State Bank Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri and Citizens Bank and Trust. In addition, advanced arm band tickets will be on sale at the fair office on Tuesday. Arm bands purchased on the fairgrounds will be $15.
