Although unemployment rates saw a slight rise in June, Missouri topped the nation in job growth, according to information provided by the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged up by one-tenth of a point to 5.2 percent in June, but is six-tenths of a percent lower than it was a year earlier. Missouri’s unemployment rates continue to be lower than the nation’s rate, which was 5.6 percent in June.
Two of the nine counties in the Green Hills Area saw their unemployment rates drop while two others maintained the same rate. Daviess and Mercer counties each had a one-tenth of a percent drop while the rate was steady in Harrison and Putnam counties.
Grundy County had a slight increase in employment, going from 4.5 percent in May to 5.1 percent in June.
The Green Hills counties unemployment rate for June and May of 2004 as well as for June of 2003 includes:
Caldwell, 7.2, 5.9, 8.5; Daviess, 5.0, 5.1, 6.4; Grundy, 5.1, 4.6, 6.6; Harrison, 3.9, 3.9, 4.1; Linn, 6.8, 4.4, 9.9; Livingston, 4.1, 3.7, 4.9; Mercer, 4.7, 4.8, 6.0; Putnam, 3.8, 3.8, 5.7; and Sullivan, 5.5, 5.3, 11.6.
The lowest rate in the state was in Nodaway County at 2.0 percent. The highest rate was in Pemiscot County at 10.4 percent.
