Funeral services for J. Lynn Freeman will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton. Rev. Barry Boulware will officiate.

The body will be cremated following the service and burial of the ashes will be in the Rural Dale Cemetery, east of Trenton. Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home of Trenton is in charge of arrangements.

A general visitation will begin after noon on Sunday, July 25 2004 at the funeral home.

Mr. Freeman, a 101-year-old resident of Sunnyview Apartments in Trenton, died at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at the apartments, where he had resided since Sept. 7, 2001.

Mr. Freeman was born on Oct. 11, 1902, south of Edinburg, the son of Roy Ernest and Sarah Blanche Murphey Freeman. The family moved to a farm north of Trenton when he was five. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1921, then attended and graduated from Trenton Junior College and then the University of Missouri.

Mr. Freeman was married on June 3, 1934 in Trenton to Ruby Fern Minter, who preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 1986. He had lived in Indianapolis, IN and Ft. Leonard Wood before moving to Kansas City in 1942. He had been employed as a vault teller at the Commerce Bank and Trust company in Kansas City for 25 years, retiring in 1966. The Freemans moved to Trenton to make their home in 1967.

Mr. Freeman was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Trenton Masonic Lodge No. 111 AF&AM, the Trenton Council No. 37, Godfrey DeBouillion Commandary No. 24 and Parson Chapter No. 189 OES, where he had served as past worthy patron. He was also involved in various organizations and was very active in them. Some of the involvement included the Trenton Lions Club, which he joined in 1968 and hep the Lions Club relay eyes, fill candy machines, serve snacks at the blood drive and work in the concession stand at the fair. He delivered meals on wheels at the Trenton Senior Center for many years. He also belonged to the Trenton Coin Club.

Mr. Freeman is survived by one brother, James Murphey Freeman of Williamsburg, VA; a brother-in-law, Darl Minter of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Louise Coler; and an infant brother.

The family suggest memorial contributions to the Trenton Lions Club for the Missouri Lions Eye Research program.
