Lottie LaDene Kempton, a 93-year-old former resident of State Center, died on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.

Lottie LaDene Kempton, a 93-year-old former resident of State Center, died on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in State Center, IA, with Pastor Elsa Lowrey officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
A family visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2004 at the Wensel Perrin Funeral Home in State Center.
Mrs. Kempton was born Dec. 18, 1910 in Bethany, the daughter of Riley Maize and Martha Ann Hall Maize. She received her education in the Frontier County, NE, schools and also attended the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture. After graduation she moved to Kansas City, where she was employed in the art department of Hallmark Cards.
She married on Sept. 30, 1929 to Lester Kempton at Paola, KS. They made their home in Nebraska and Missouri, moving to State Center in 1960. She enjoyed music and singing, flowers, birds, nature and her family and friends and was a member of the garden club. She also enjoyed poetry and books and read to other residents at the care center.
Mrs. Kempton is survived her a son, Thomas, of Verona, VA; five daughters, Joan Elting of Wheatland, WY, Babette Marten and her husband, Cliff of West Des Moines, IA, Marcia Toombs and her husband, Marvin of Adel, IA, and Barbara Adams and her husband, Ray, and Beverly Harrison and her husband, Roy, all of Trenton; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her siblings and two grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in State Center.
