The Grundy R-5 Board of Education has offered a contract for the high school principal’s position.

The action was taken during an executive session of the board held Wednesday night at the school in Galt. Board Secretary Shelly Searcy said the board has received a verbal acceptance of the contract, however, a formal announcement will be made once the contract has been signed.

The R-5 board has also offered a contract for a part-time position at the high school, which would cover the areas of physical education, health and science. A signed contract has not yet been received.

The board will meet in regular session on Monday, June 28 at the school.

Harrison County R-4

The Harrison County R-4 Board of Education approved the 2004-2005 school budget and appointed a board treasurer during a meeting Thursday night at the school in Gilman City.

Superintendent David Cross said the budget shows expenditures exceeding revenues by just over $13,000. The projected revenues for the next school year are $1,468,450 while expenditures are listed at $1,481,592.

Kerri Ward was appointed as the board treasurer. Approval was given to the professional development handbook for the 2004-2005 school year. Bev Allen gave a report on summer school, which completed classes on June 9 and had an average daily attendance of 53.7 students.

A schedule of early-out dates was approved for the 2004-2005 school year. School will be dismissed early on the first and third Wednesday of each month to allow teachers to work on curriculum reviews and updates as well as prepare documents for the MSIP visit, scheduled for March 2, 2005.

Updates to the student handbook were also approved.

During an executive session, the board offered a contract for a science position, however, a signed document has not been received.

The next regular meeting of the board is scheduled for July 15.
