The Grundy County Sheriff?s Department used a canine unit from the Kansas City area Thursday evening to conduct another search in the ongoing investigation into the whereabouts of two missing Independence children.
Canine units were taken in a boat down Honey Creek and searched areas along the creek, while other searchers returned to the area on Southeast Eighth Street where 41-year-old Daniel W. Porter was apprehended June 10. His two children, eight-year-old Lindsey Porter and seven-year-old Samuel Porter, have been missing since their father failed to return them to their mother after a scheduled visit on June 6. Porter, who is being held in the Jackson County Jail, is charged with parental kidnapping and is not cooperating with authorities in the search for the children.
