Crowder Plan To Be Presented
The public will have the opportunity to view the 2004 Conceptual Development Plan for Crowder State Park at a meeting scheduled for Saturday evening.
The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the amphitheater located at the campground at Crowder.
Four areas are included in the plan, according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources? website. They include: campground expansion, equestrian trailhead relocation, land acquisition and trail development.
Under the plan, the existing campground will be expanded to the northwest to provide more campsites. Camping at Crowder is very popular and demand often exceeds availability of space. Expansion will require the purchase of additional land adjacent to the campground significantly and increase the number of campsites in the park.
The relocation of the equestrian trailhead is planned to provide more security to those who use the equestrian trails.
The plan identifies several areas of land acquisition. These areas were identified by staff and are needed for campground expansion, viewshed protection, watershed protection, bottomland restoration, woodland restoration, trails or concerns regarding other encroachments.
In the area of trail development, it was noted that the park currently has 15 1/2 miles of trails. The demand for trail expansion is great and as a result, trails will be incorporated on the future land acquisitions and current state property.
The Conceptual Development Plan is the document that guides the long -range development of state parks and state historic sites. In the CDP, development the next five years or more that support the mission, purpose and direction of a park. The plan was developed using input from the public from two previous meetings and from input from staff.
