The Grundy County Commission made two appointments and heard an update on the county sales tax collection during the morning portion of its meeting held today at the courthouse.

The Grundy County Commission made two appointments and heard an update on the county sales tax collection during the morning portion of its meeting held today at the courthouse.
The commission appointed Bill Meeker of Laredo to serve on the board of directors of the Grundy County Health Department, replacing the late Betty Frances Hall, and appointed Phil Schlarb of Trenton to the board of directors of the Families and Friends of the Developmentally Disabled in Grundy County, replacing Karen Glenn, who has resigned.
In addition, commission heard an update on sales tax collection for May and for the year to date. The county has two one-half cent sales taxes, one for General Revenue and for the operation of the county ambulance service. Each of the two taxes brought in $50,675.96 in May, which is down $806.09 from May 2003. However, the collection for the year to date is $178,212.34, which is up $1,309.88 over this time last year. The sales tax collection for the month of May 2002 was $48,641.65 and at this time in 2002, the total collected for the year was $178,983.37.
