With hundreds of youngsters waiting very impatiently, the Trenton Family Aquatic Center should hopefully open Friday or Monday.
The opening of the center has been delayed due to weather-related issues concerning the parking lot at lower Moberly Park. Pool Manager James Arnold said the facility will open on one of those days whether the lot is ready or not.
In addition to Arnold, two co-managers, Samie Blattner and Daniel Gott, will be working at the facility in its opening season. Joining them will be a corps of lifeguards, including Eric Lorenz, David Sager, Casey Beavers, Jesse Ingraham, Kaycee Blattner, Courtney Cox, Skyler Blattner, Annie Hooker, Dustin Koon, Adriane Hoffman, Alana Tolle, Ivy Swank, Katie Whitt, Kenton Kinney, Melissa Gay, Brandi Thorne, Cara Ricketts, Adria Meek, Ryan Bosley, Kiley Slater and Kayla Slater.
The new aquatic center, financed with revenues from a one-half cent sales tax approved by voters in April 2003, includes three separate pool areas. A zero-entry pool that will have ?floatables? for younger children is included, as is a ?regular? pool, with depths from 3 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 2 inches, is handicapped accessible and includes lanes for swimming as well as a basketball goal at one end. A circular slide and a speed slide are sure to be the main attractions at the center, with both leading to a plunge pool. The plunge pool is connected to the diving pool with low- and high-dive springboards. The plunge pool and diving pool are separated by a ?floating ropewalk? that will challenge pool patrons as they attempt to cross the width of the pool. In addition, the aquatic center includes a spray area and play structure that will be utilized by younger children.
Those planning to use the slides should be aware that patrons must be at least four feet tall to go down the slide. Children will not be allowed to come down the slide with a parent and a guard will be located at the top of the slide to demonstrate the correct way to use the slide. Patrons must come down the slide feet-first.
Another welcome feature of the center is a shaded concession area, which has several tables available and a party area that will be available for rent on an hourly basis. Several shade awnings are located throughout the center and lounge chairs will be available for a $1 rental fee.
The aquatic center will be open seven days a week, with the following hours: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 1 to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, 1 to 6 p.m., with pool parties scheduled for 6:45 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 1 to 6 p.m., with family swim night to be held from 6 to 9 p.m.
Daily admission prices are $1 for preschool students; $2 for students grades kindergarten through 12; and $3 for adults. Season passes are $120 for a family pass, which includes up to four persons, with an additional household member or babysitter to be added for an additional $10 per person. A single season pass is $40, with a season pass for senior citizens available for $20 for one person or $30 for two people in the same household. While the aquatic center is not yet open, center staff is normally available from approximately 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the pool for those who wish to purchase a pass prior to opening day.
