Edward Wayne Hamilton, a 91-year-old resident of Milan, died on Friday afternoon, May 28, 2004 at the North Kansas City Hospital.

Edward Wayne Hamilton, a 91-year-old resident of Milan, died on Friday afternoon, May 28, 2004 at the North Kansas City Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday, June 1, 2004) at the Glenn E. Kent and Son Funeral Chapel. Dr. Pamela Brakhage officiated. Music was recorded selections with Mary Susan Scott as organist. Burial was in the Asbury Cemetery, northwest of Milan.

Pallbearers were Josh McAlister, Jason McAlister, Michael Flanagan, Jared Hamilton, Brad Smith and Steve Fairley.

Mr. Hamilton was born on March 17, 1913 near Humphreys, the son of John Jacob and Ella Matilda Fertig Hamilton. He lived in the Humphreys, Harris and Wintersville communities and moved to Trenton at an early age. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1932. During his senior year, he achieved recognition as a football player by being named an all-state second team tackle. He was employed with the Rock Island Railroad in Trenton and Silvis, IL, before returning to live on a farm near Harris. He was employed with the Milan C-2 School District for several years and was employed with Banquet Foods at the time of his retirement in 1977.

He was married on Dec. 25, 1934 to Mary Lillian Smith, who preceded him in death in 1978.

He is survived by one daughter, Beverly June Worl and her husband, Marvin, of Galt; one son, Gary Dale Hamilton and his wife, Carol, of East Galesburg, IL; six grandchildren, Rick McAlister, Susan Harris, Sharon Jenks, Steve Fairley, Jared Hamilton and Jennifer Lancaster; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Eloise Hamilton Lentz of Trenton; and two brothers-in-law, John Williams of Ida Grove, IA and Dale Smith of Harris.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jerry Elaine; six brothers; and six sisters.

The family suggests contributions to the Sullivan County Multipurpose Senior Center.
