The Spickard R-2 Board of Education met Tuesday night, hearing information about the E-MINTS grant and discussing summer school plans.

Principal Ruth Ann Shipps said the school district has received an E-MINTS grant rom the state, allowing two classrooms to be updated with new technology, such as smart boards, computers, etc. Ms. Shipps said the grant would fund work in the third/fourth and fifth /sixth grade classrooms, with some work to begin this summer. Teacher training will also begin this summer, with the work and training to be completed by December.

Summer school will be held at the school from June 1-16. Basic reading, math and language arts skills will be the focus of classes, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day for students in grades kindergarten through 12. Lunch will be served.

Preschool classes next year will be held four days per week rather than five, which had previously been held. Classes will now be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The board reviewed summer maintenance projects and was told the Drury Award was presented to Jacob Ewing. Action on the purchase of a new dishwater was tabled until more cost information can be received. Ms. Shipps reported that the fourth quarter attendance average was 94 percent.

Todd Wilson was chosen as the MSBA delegate. J.R. Roberts will be the alternate.

The next regular board meeting will be on Tuesday, June 22.
