Kenneth Dean ?Kenny? Rockhold, an 80-year-old resident of Lineville, IA, died on Friday, May 21, 2004 at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at the Lineville United Methodist Church. Revs. Max Carmichael and Leroy Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville.
General visitation is now under way at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville. A family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 o?clock tonight (Monday, May 24, 2004) at the funeral chapel.
Mr. Rockhold was born on March 10 1924 in Wayne County, IA, north of Lineville, the son of Charles H. and Cora Max Alexander Rockhold. He was a 1941 graduate of Lineville High School and a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps. He attended Michigan State University, later receiving a teacher?s certificate and teaching five years at the Jefferson Rural School in Wayne County. He farmed in Wayne and Decatur counties for many years and also owned and operated the Rockhold Produce in Lineville for 11 years. He later worked for the MFA Exchange in Lineville for 14 years. He owned and operated a quilting business, ?The Quilt Loft,? in Lineville, mowed the Evergreen Cemetery for a few years and worked for the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service.
Mr. Rockhold was a former member of the Lions Club in Lineville, a former member of the Wayne County Conservation Board, a former member of the Evergreen Cemetery Association of Lineville, was currently president of the Lineville Senior Center and was an active member of the Lineville United Methodist Church.
He was married on June 16, 1945 to Louise Clay, who preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 1991. He was married on Aug. 8, 1992 to Helen Cobb Toliver, who survives him of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Ken Rockhold and his wife, Linda of Ankeny IA, Mike Rockhold and his wife, Norma, of Corydon, IA and Tom Rockhold and his wife, Janice, of Lineville; three step-daughters, Doris Terrell and her companion, Ron Long, of Houston, TX, Donna Keller and her husband, Jerry, of Seymour, IA, and Louise Elder of Denver, CO; one brother, Ray Rockhold of Lineville; a sister-in-law, Mary Rockhold of Corydon; a brother-in-law, Joe Clay Jr and his wife, Joan, of Des Moines, IA; nine grandchildren, Missy Nederhoff and her husband, Jeff, Patty Hackney, Nick Rockhold and his wife, Amber, Todd Rockhold and his wife, Marci, Traci Robinson and her husband, David, and Amy, Tim, Jessica and Ashley Rockhold; two step-grandchildren, Bridget and Tiffany Allen; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ivan and Merle Rockhold; an infant sister, Evelyn Rockhold; and nine brothers- and sisters-in-law, Wilma and Virginia Rockhold, Quincy and Ione Vaughn, Ralph and Bonnie Clay, Don and Elaine Lockridge and Irene Marsengill.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Lineville Senior Center. They may be left at or mailed to the funeral home at 310 W. Third St., Lineville, IA 50147.
