Doyle Ricketts, a 70-year-old resident of 1719 Lakeside Terrace at Trenton, died at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2004 at the Wright Memorial Hospital at Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the Tindall Christian Church in Tindall. Rev. Gail Brown will officiate. Burial will follow military graveside rites at the South Evans Cemetery, east of Tindall.
A family visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
Mr. Ricketts was born on Dec. 17, 1933 at Tindall, the son of Carl Edward and Nola Jane Sibbitt Ricketts. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1951 and attended the Trenton Junior College.
He was married on May 19, 1957 at Davenport, IA to Esther Boruff, who survives of the home. They had lived in Trenton all their married lives.
Mr. Ricketts served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was stationed on the USS Chourre and the USS Norton Sound. While serving in the Korean War, he received two meritorious MASTS. After his discharge, he returned to Trenton, where he owned and operated Ricketts Barber Shop until he retired as a barber in 1993. He was also a rural mail carrier for many years and retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1998.
Mr. Ricketts was a member of the Tindall Christian Church; held all offices in the Major Dale Stepp Post No. 31, American Legion and also in the Joseph L. Norton Post No. 919, VFW, both of Trenton; was on the South Evans Cemetery Board for many years; was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association; and was the 1951 THS class coordinator. He was also the USS Chourre reunion group arranger.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kirby Ricketts, and his wife, Leona of Trenton; a daughter, Doylene Costello of Roswell,GA; two brothers, Don Ricketts and his wife, Darlie Ann, of Trenton and Wayne Ricketts of Overland Park, KS; and six grandchildren, Erin Heimler, Anne, Sara and Stacey Costello and Amanda and Derek Ricketts.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
