The Jamesport City Council met Tuesday, selecting a water source for the city and hiring several employees.
According to information provided by City Clerk Carol Cass, the council voted 4-0 to select the Livingston #4 Public Water Supply District as its water source. The issue had been considered for several months, with other public water supply districts having been considered, as well.
The council voted to hire Jackie Turner as a full-time maintenance worker, with Bryce Wells and Jared Perkins hired as temporary part-time employees. In other issues involving city employees, council member Virginia Hopkins updated the council on a meeting with three employees regarding the implementation of work orders and their perception and thoughts concerning productivity and policy. The council concluded that the city clerk is the sole person responsible for issuing, tracking, receiving and filing work orders. Completed work orders need to be handed in by the end of each Friday or when requested. All work orders submitted to the city clerk will be approved by the mayor prior to issuance.
Mrs. Cass advised the council that the employee health insurance would be renewed July 1 and noted there would be a 4 percent increase. The council agreed to continue with the same program.
The council discussed the difficulty in communicating, with employees suggesting the need for phones or pagers. Mrs. Hopkins made a motion, which passed 4-0, to accept a bid from Alltel for two phones at a cost of $55 for the package deal. The phones are to be used for city business and it was noted that personal calls would be the responsibility of the employee and reimbursement would be expected.
In other business, Mayor J.L. Eckelberry noted that the signing of the petition for the road subdistrict was progressed nicely and he anticipates that he and the council will be going door to door starting next week. Various street issues were discussed, including potholes, ditches and progress made in those areas. Mayor Eckelberry noted that two dumpsters had been filled during the spring cleanup and another dumpster will not be ordered until June. Some discussion was held concerning new water meters, but it was decided to not order any new meters until the new budget year, which begins July 1.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 15.
