Water bond refinancing and bids were topics addressed by the Princeton City Council and Spickard Board of Aldermen during meetings this week.

Princeton

The Princeton City Council agreed to refinance its water revenue bonds during a meeting on Wednesday night.

City Clerk Keri Stamper said the refinancing would save the city about $18,000 and allow the bonds to be paid off in 2016, which is two years sooner than originally planned. The bonds were used to finance construction of a new water tower.

Kinzey Russell of SKW updated the council on its well grant and said bids for construction will be advertised next week. The bids will be opened on June 4.

The city will be advertising for bids to replace the roof of the bandstand on the city square. The council renewed its lease for one year for Nancy’s Nook and Country Charm to rent the old city hall and approved a service contract of $5,848 with the Princeton Chamber of Commerce. A catering permit was approved for Rudy’s, which will be used during the Battle of the Bands on Aug. 21.

Letters are to be sent to two property owners for unkempt property. Rachel Franklin was hired as the pool manager for the summer.

The oath of office was given to Mayor Mike Greenlee, south ward alderman George Scurlock and north ward alderman Russell Trainer.

The next meeting will be June 8.

Spickard

The Spickard Board of Aldermen met Tuesday evening, accepting a bid for the mowing and baling of hay at the lagoon.

According to City Clerk DeeAnn Olson, the council accepted a bid from Zachary Wilson for the mowing and baling of the hay at the lagoon. His bid, which was the highest of two received, involves Wilson keeping two-thirds of the bales and paying $13.50 per bale for the remaining one-third.

The council is still seeking persons to fill the one-year and two-year council positions from the south ward.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 3.
