Donald Ray ?Don? Meeker, an 80-year-old resident of Blue Springs, died on Friday, April 23, 2004 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Blue Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home in Blue Springs. A graveside service will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 o?clock tonight (Monday, April 26, 2004) at the funeral home.

Mr. Meeker was born on Jan. 21, 1924 in Browning, the son of Fred and Erma Jerome Meeker. He was a 1942 graduate of Laredo High School and was in the Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He received two Purple Hearts and two presidential unit citations. He retired from Sears, Roebuck and Company in 1984 after 38 years of service. He was in management.

Mr. Meeker was a member of the First United Methodist Church and American Legion Post No. 499 of Blue Springs, VFW Post No. 1000 of Independence, Royal Order of the Moose Post No. 10 of Sugar Creek and the Hy-Vee Breakfast Club at Blue Springs. He was also a past officer of the Residents Association of Royal Palms Park in Sarasota, FL.

Mr. Meeker is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary B. Sears Meeker; one son, Walter Preston Meeker and his wife, Deborah Jane, of Fair Play; three grandchildren Jessica Lynn, Jennifer Dawn and Jeffrey Preston Meeker; one aunt, Irene Jerome of Brookfield; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Jerome Meeker.
