Two members of Boy Scout Troop 97 received their Eagle Scout Award during a ceremony held Sunday afternoon at the First Christian Church in Trenton.
Derek Spencer of Trenton, son of Delvin and Belena Spencer, and former Trenton resident Brian McClure of Butler, son of Jon and Daphne McClure, received the award in a ceremony conducted by Donnie Vandevender, Bill Vaughn, Jim Walker, Kevin Bailey and Dr. Paul Cox.
Derek received his Arrow of Light on May 5, 1997 and received the following rank advancements: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star Scout, Life Scout and Eagle. He has held the position of patrol leader and quartermaster. Derek was tapped in to the Tribe of Mic-O-Say in 1999 and advanced to the rank of Tom-Tom Beater. His Mic-O-Say name is Smaller Travious Fixer.
Derek, a senior at Trenton High School, earned the following merit badges: archery, astronomy, auto mechanics, aviation, basketry, camping, citizenship in the community, citizenship in the nation, citizenship in the world, communications, personal fitness, personal management, rifle shoot, shotgun shoot, space explore, cooking, emergency preparedness, environmental science, family life, fingerprinting, first aid, forestry, hiking, Indian lore, leatherwork, photography, pottery, swimming, wild survival and wood carving. He received his God and Family Award in May 1997.
For his Eagle project, Derek constructed new playground equipment at Eastside Park, with the assistance of his grandfather, Leon Spencer. He is also the grandson of Janet Spencer and Gene and Sharlene Wyant.
Brian is a senior at Butler High School and received the following rank advancements: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star Scout, Life Scout and Eagle Scout. He has held the position of patrol leader. Brian was tapped into the Tribe of Mic-O-Say in 1999 and advanced to the rank of runner. His Mic-O-Say name is Night Eyes.

For his Eagle project, Brian interviewed, documented and archived accounts of World War I and World War II veterans for the Bates County Historical Society.
Brian is the grandson of Daryl and Elsie Mae Browning of Trenton and the late Frank and Lucille McClure.
