The city of Trenton has been awarded a Land and Water Conservation Grant to allow for the extension of the walking trail in the Eastside Park Area.

According to a news release from Gov. Bob Holden?s office, the city will receive $41,218 in funds to construct an extension to the walking trail. The federal grant program can be used by local city, county and state governments and school districts to acquire, develop and renovate outdoor recreation projects. The grants were awarded to projects with the highest score based on meeting the recreational needs of communities, planning goals and unique or specific attributes. The funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Interior?s National Park Service and all projects require a 55 percent match.
