Championship mountain bike racing is coming to the Green Hills Area this weekend as the seventh annual Crowder Crank-N-Cruise will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Crowder State Park.
This event was created seven years ago to expose outdoor enthusiasts and mountain bikers to the recreational opportunities in the Green Hills region and to showcase the beauty and trails of Crowder State Park. The event is sponsored by the Green Hills Trail Association and over 200 racers are expected to participate.
Events on Friday night include on-site primitive camping, music and campfire activities. There will also be big screen movies and lodging available in the bunkhouse.
Registration begins on Saturday at 8 a.m. and concludes at 10 a.m. The race begins promptly at 10:30 a.m. Awards and swags will follow and the trails will then be open for riding.
There will also be a Gear Swap Flea Market from 3 to 5 p.m. and a rider feed beginning at 5 p.m., sponsored by Trenton Hy-Vee and Trenton Coca-Cola. Live music by the campfire and refreshments will be held on Saturday night.
Sunday begins with a Fellowship of Christian Athletes pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. Registration will be from 8 to10 a.m., followed by the race at 10:30 a.m. There will also be a worship service at 8 a.m.
This year registration is free for youth racers. Adult registration ranges from $15 to $30, depending on the racer’s competition category.
The public is invited to come out and participate in many of the events. For more information, persons can contact Greg Pitchford with the Green Hills Trail Association at 660-646-0041.
