The Laredo R-7 board approved the employment of a Parents as Teachers Educator, set the graduation date and discussed tuition for the 2004-2005 school during its meeting on Monday.

According to information provided by Principal Jean Dustman, the board certified the results of the April 6 election and gave the oath of office to members Stephen Lowrey and Shane Larson. Officers were elected with Jim Marsh re-elected as president, Brad Tolson elected as vice president and Kendall Foster serving as treasurer.

In old business, the board agreed to accept applications for the secretary/bookkeeper position from April 15 through May 3. Brenda Betz was approved as the Parents as Teachers Educator and Larry Grothe was awarded the bid for mowing of the school yard.

In new business, a field trip to the 1860?s Living History Festival in Trenton on Friday was approved, as was the tentative dates of summer school, which will be held June 2-9 depending upon student response. It was announced that eighth grade graduation ceremonies will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 20 at the school. It was also announced that the district has received one of the Reading First grants.

Board members discussed tuition at the school, but tabled any action on the subject. Currently, tuition for out-of-district preschool students is $450 per year, with out-of-district students in grades kindergarten through eight, paying $600 per year.

A discussion of the budget was held, with the board noting that around $14,400 will be received from state funding that had been previously withheld. In discussing transportation, the board agreed to use its own buses rather than leasing buses.

Following an executive session, the board voted to offer contracts for all certified staff. Salaries are frozen at this time and the career ladder program has been discontinued.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 10.
