FFA Qualifies Four Teams for State Contest

Four teams from the Trenton High School FFA Chapter advanced to state contest following the District Career Development Events competition held Tuesday in Maryville.

Four teams from the Trenton High School FFA Chapter advanced to state contest following the District Career Development Events competition held Tuesday in Maryville.

In addition to the four teams that qualified at the district level, the FFA Knowledge Team and Kelly Tredway will take part in the Missouri State FFA Convention on April 15-16 in Columbia. Miss Tredway will participate in Prepared Public Speaking, Division I.

Finishing second at the district contest was the dairy cattle team, with Kari Epperson finishing as the second high contest individual while Stephanie Gutshall finished fifth. Other team members include Sadie Jones and Megan Schmidt.

The floriculture team placed fourth. Megan Wyant was the fifth-high contest individual and Megean McCloud was ninth. Other team members were Hilary Holeman and Krystal Merez.

Taking eighth and qualifying for state was the ag mechanics team. Derek Lowrey was the third-high contest individual. Other team members were Mitch Briegel, Adam McClure and Trent Steinhoff.

The fourth team to qualify for state was the agronomy team, which finished 12th. Jeremy Shuler was the team-high individual judge. The remainder of the team included Tyler Allen, Josh Gott and Daniel Stokes.

Five other teams took part in the contests. Taking 15th was the farm management team. Sean Silkwood was the team-high individual judge. Mark Wood, Sadie Jones and Megan Schmidt also made up the team.

Placing 18th was the meat judging team. Brent Applebury was the team-high individual. Other team members included April Ross, Kayla Slater and Ashley Stiner.

Dairy foods finished 19th. Team members were Megan Easley, who was the team-high individual, Tasha Porter, Zach Sampson and Austin Thompson.

The horse judging team was 22nd, with Amanda Mullany as the team-high individual. Other team members were Kelly Grogan, Robbie Houser and Rodney Hughes.

Entomology was 25th and Tiffany Brewer was the team-high individual. Other team members were Logan Epperson and Kari Shiflett.

Others competing, but receiving no team score, were Misty Sharp, nursery landscaping; and Allen Saul and Kurt Walker, forestry.
