The Trenton Building Board Committee met Thursday night, hearing updates on properties and a report on a meeting with the Department of Natural Resources.

Trenton City Administrator Kerry Sampson said the committee held a public hearing on the Zang Property, located at 1300 Tinsman Ave., and learned that the demolition should be complete in about 30 days, with the same contractor to finish the demolition and cleanup of the Round House during that time frame. It was noted that there are still two houses on 17th Street to be demolished through the Community Development Block Grant and that the contractor still has cleanup issues and issues with neighboring homeowners to resolve.

Sampson said he visited with officials from the Department of Natural Resources, including Deputy Division Director Daniel Schuette recently at the regional office concerning inconsistencies in air quality guidelines. He also expressed his concern about the city receiving notices of violation from the DNR when a contractor working with the city receives one. Sampson asked for clarification on the guidelines and the violations policy and is expecting to hear from the DNR on those subjects.

In other business, inspector Jim Linville said he is working on three houses and the committee met with a homeowner who is fixing a rental house on Grundy Street concerning needed repairs to cracks in his basement. The homeowner feels the problem may be caused by drainage from the street and the city will look into the matter to make a determination.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 6.
