Several candidates beat the filing deadline Tuesday and threw their hats in the ring for Grundy County offices, subject to the Aug. 3 Primary Election.

Several candidates beat the filing deadline Tuesday and threw their hats in the ring for Grundy County offices, subject to the Aug. 3 Primary Election.

There are now five candidates seeking the office of assessor, including Democrats Melissa Robinson and Ken Anderson and Republican Marlisa Klinginsmith, who all filed on Tuesday, as well as the incumbent Andrea Steinhoff, a Democrat and Don Stotts, a Republican, who had filed earlier. Six persons will be vying for the office of sheriff, with the incumbent, Greg Coon, not seeking re-election. David Trickel, a Republican, filed on Tuesday and will face four other Republican candidates including Rodney Herring, Scott Lynch, John Myers and Vern Johnson, who had all filed earlier.

There is a three-way race for public administrator, with Liz Johnson filing Tuesday on the Republican ticket. She will face the incumbent, Joyce Tuttle, and Susan Plumb, who both filed earlier on the Republican ticket. Two persons had earlier filed for the office of second district county commissioner, including incumbent H.L. ?Bud? Cox, a Democrat, and Republican Joe Brinser.

Those who will not face opposition on the ballot include Treasurer Colleen Kidd, a Republican; First District Commissioner Gene Wyant, a Republican; and Coroner Tom Eads, also a Republican.

In addition, Bob Darby of Spickard has filed for Third District state representative on the Republican ticket. He will face incumbent Jim Whorton, a Democrat, who earlier filed for re-election.
