The Grundy County Commission accepted bids for several items and abated a tax penalty during its meeting on Tuesday.

According to the County Clerk?s Office, the commission accepted the low bid of two from Wahoo Concrete for concrete at a net cost of $63.80 per eight-pound bag. Brewer and Ireland Contracting was awarded the low bid of three for mowing of the lawns at the courthouse and jail, as well as the Wynne, Sires and Bethel cemeteries. The bid for all lawns was $215 per time. Trenton MFA was awarded the bid for gas and diesel fuel, offering a 25-cent discount on the pump price, which was the lowest of two bids received. CART rock bids were reviewed, with the information to be forwarded to township officials, who will make their own decision about which vendor to select.

In other business, the commission agreed, as part of its quarterly write-off policy, to write off $103,628 in uncollectible ambulance bills from the years 2000 and 2001. If any of the bills are considered collectable, the county will continue to pursue those funds. The commission also agreed to abate a penalty of approximately $36 for Tammy Burgess, whose assessment and tax information had been sent to the wrong address.
