The Trenton Middle School PTO will host a parent-child trivia night and silent basket auction Friday night in conjunction with a book fair in the TMS media center.

The evening will kick off with the Scholastic Book Fair, which will open at 3:15 and run through 8:30 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to view the books on Thursday, with no sales allowed until Friday afternoon. All items will be buy one, get one free. Credit cards will be accepted at the book fair.

The parent-child trivia night will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the TMS gym. Teams of six members, consisting of at least two adults who are ninth grade or older, will battle for the first-place prize of $100. The second-place team will take home $75 and the third-place team will win $50. Registration forms are available in the TMS office and should be returned to the office by Wednesday, with the $25 advance team registration fee included. Teams who register after Wednesday will be required to pay a $30 registration fee.

The event will consist of four rounds of 10 questions each, with one bonus question in each round. Teams will have 45 seconds to submit the answer to each question. One point will be awarded for each correct answer and one point will be awarded for each correct answer for each optional bonus question. One point will be deducted for incorrect answers to bonus questions.

There will be one tiebreaker question in the final round with points to be awarded only in the case of a tie. In the event a tie still remains, a sudden death playoff will be held among the teams that are tied. The decision of the judges is final.

There will be a 10-minute break between rounds one and two and rounds three and four and a 30-minute intermission between rounds two and three. This will be done to permit participants time to bid on the silent auction baskets, purchase books at the book fair or enjoy concessions.

The Basketmania Silent Auction is the PTO?s biggest fund-raiser. Those wishing to bid on the baskets need to simply sign their name on the bid sheet in front of the basket with the basket going to the highest bidder at the end of the auction. Cash and checks will be accepted and all items should be paid for and removed that evening.
