The Trenton R-9 School district will hold its preschool developmental screening April 19-21 at the Early childhood Education Building at 800 Kumler.

Children who will be three or four years of age by Aug. 1 are eligible to participate in the screening, which is used to measure language, concepts and small and large motor development. Speech, vision and hearing will also be checked at this time. Children grow at their own rate and when parents are familiar with both strengths and weaknesses of their child, they can provide the best opportunities for learning.

Children who participate in the screening and are age four by Aug. 1 may qualify for a free preschool program offered by the Trenton R-9 School District. Components of the program include half-day classroom sessions, Monday through Friday; quarterly group meetings; home or school visits; and the use of the preschool toy and book lending library.

Screening appointments can be made by calling the preschool at 359-2003. A copy of each child’s birth certificate and immunization are required at the time of screening. For more information, persons can contact Lora Hudson, preschool teacher, at 359-2003, or Kim Tate, Parents as Teachers coordinator, at 359-3994.
