James Madison Ralls, an 83-year-old resident of Richmond, died on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 at the Larksfied Place in Wichita, KS. He was a former Trenton resident.

James Madison Ralls, an 83-year-old resident of Richmond, died on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 at the Larksfied Place in Wichita, KS. He was a former Trenton resident.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at the First Christian Church in Richmond.

Mr. Ralls was born Dec. 31, 1920 in Alamogordo, NM, the son of William Earl and Mary Ann Smith Ralls. He grew up in Trenton, where he played varsity basketball and baseball. He was an honor graduate of Trenton Junior College and the University of Missouri. He served in the European Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was married in 1942 to Jessiemae Langford, who preceded him in death. He was active in the community and church. He was a founding board member of the Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond. He was a lifelong athlete who enjoyed the Missouri Tigers and golf.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Schriefer and her husband, Bruce, of Wichita, and Ruth Ann Welsh and her husband, John, of Reno, NV; three grandchildren, Scott Ralls Schriefer, Ashley Elizabeth Brown and Robert Ralls Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis Rian and Andrew Miles Brown.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

The family suggests memorials to the Wichita Collegiate School or the First Christian Church of Richmond.
