Fred Dustman, an 80-year-old resident of Yuma, AZ, died on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 in Yuma. He was a former resident of Jameson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at the McWilliams Family Funeral Home in Gallatin. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Gallatin.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service and friends may call after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at the funeral home.
Mr. Dustman was born on Sept. 26, 1923 in Burlington, IA to Henry and Henrietta Steingreaber Dustman. He graduated in 1941 from Sperry, IA, High School. He was married on April 8, 1945 in Burlington to Joyce Bond, who survives of the home.
Mr. Dustman served in the Army at Camp Stoneman,CA from 1945 to 1946. After his military service, he farmed at Wapello, IA and Eugene. The Dustman family purchased a farm southeast of Knox City in 1952. They bought a farm and moved to Jameson in 1959, building a house overlooking the Grand River. The Dustmans operated a restaurant in their home for two years. Mr. and Mrs. Dustman relocated to a farm south of Clarksburg in 1979, retiring from farming seven years later in 1986.
After retirement, the Dustmans traveled the U.S., residing in Arizona, Montana and Missouri. They built a house in Gallatin in 2002 and were living in Yuma at the time of Mr. Dustman’s death.
Mr. Dustman was a member of the Jameson Christian Church and the Jameson Lions Club. He served in several capacities with MFA, MFA Oil, Farm Bureau and the extension service.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Dustman is survived by three sons, Lynn Dustman of Laredo, Richard Dustman of Jamesport and Bryce Dustman of Washington D.C.; three sisters, Laura Speidel of Burlington, IA, Donna Melcher of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Martha Kent of Lookout Mountain, TN; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dustman in 1963; and a sister, Marion Dustman.
