The Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library has been remembered in a bequest from Charles E. Walton.

According to information provided by librarian Lynne Moos, the library has received a “substantial monetary gift” from the Walton estate. Ms. Moos said the library is most grateful for Mr. Walton?s generosity.The board is considering what use is to be made of the funds.

Mr. Walton, the son of Edward I. and Pauline Gregory Walton, was born Dec 2, 1920 in Trenton. He received a bachelor?s degree form Northeast Missouri State Teachers College at Kirksville in 1942, a master?s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1943, did graduate work at Baliol College at Oxford University in England and received a Doctorate in Missouri in 1953. He was a professor of English at Emporia State University in Emporia, KS from 1953 until his retirement in 1991. He taught for four years at UMC before teaching at Emporia. Mr. Walton?s mother lived in Trenton until her death.
