The event is scheduled for July 13-18, with events taking place on the campus of North Central Missouri College as well as at the Hoover Community Theater in the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library.
The Rumpelstiltskin Society is a not-for-profit group which organizes and produces the annual event. PuppetFest MidWest is an independent puppetry festival that is presented, organized and financially supported by puppeteers as a gift to anyone interested in the art of puppet theater. The mission of the festival is to inspire, strengthen and renew commitment to good puppet theater.
Participants in this year?s festival will be able to focus on their favorite aspect of puppet theater by choosing a week-long intensive workshop. Topics will include feature scriptwriting and manipulation (brinigng an inanimate object to life), as well as hands-on building techniques. Participants will spend each morning in their chosen workshop, with performances and special events planned in the afternoon. Main stage performances will be held in the evening.
Anyone interested in puppets or puppet theater is encouraged to attend the festival. Individuals who are mainstays of puppet theater in America will be sharing their knowledge during the event. The puppeteers teaching and performing have national and international reputations in the puppetry community and include Luman Coad of Coad Canada Puppets, North Vancouver, BC; Drew Allison of Grey Seal Puppets, Charlotte, NC; Kurt and Kathy Hunter of Hunter Marionettes, Minneapolis, MN; Lynne Jennings of the Jennings Puppeteers, San Diego, CA; Nick and Rose Sage Barone of Nick Barone Puppets/Sagecraft Productions, Redwood City, CA; Jim Napolitano of Nappy?s Puppets, Milford, CT; and Clay Martin of Vashon Island, WA.
There will be an exhibit of puppets, puppet scenery and posters, which will be mounted in the Dorris Rider Art Gallery on the NCMC campus. Puppeteers from around the country will display their work for the public. A special Wednesday ribbon cutting opening will be followed by a ?Meet the Artist? time, when the public can meet and greet the creators of the puppets in the exhibit The exhibit will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. from July 14 through July 17.
