Mrs. Amy I. Morrison, a 95-year-old resident of Gentry, AR, died on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004 at Quail Ridge Living Center in West Siloam Springs,OK.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton. Rev. Barry Boulware and Rev. Steve Matthew will officiate. Burial will be at the Spickard Masonic Cemetery in Spickard.
A general visitation begins after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at the Slater Funeral Home. A family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Morrison was born Sept. 19, 1908 in Spickard, the daughter of Judd McLain and Ethel Lillian Evans Coon. She attended Franklin schools and graduated from Spickard High School in 1926. She attended Maryville State Teachers College and taught in Grundy County rural schools for a number of years. She was deputy recorder of deeds for Grundy County for several years. After that she worked as a saleswoman at Smith’s Clothing Store and was also a bookkeeper for a local Western Auto Store, before finishing her career as an employee of Trenton National Bank, where she retired after 23 years.
Mrs. Morrison was member of the Spickard Methodist Church from 1922 until moving to Trenton in 1944, when she became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. While in Spickard she taught Sunday School classes for children in grades kindergarten to junior high school. In Trenton she taught Sunday School class to junior high school students and taught the Wesleyan Sunday School Class until it disbanded. She was a member of United Methodist Women, having held various offices there. She was a charter member of the Grace Brass Circle until it disbanded in 1995. Mrs. Morrison served on the board of education and the board of trustees at the Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Grundy County Friends of the Arts, Trenton Rebekah Lodge No. 15, Retta L. Ginn Past Noble Grands Club, Dorcas Richardson Chapter of the DAR, the Grundy County Museum, the Grundy County Republican Women, the Trenton Heritage Club and the United Transportation Union Auxiliary. She also served as a Red Cross volunteer for a number of years in Grundy County.
She was married on March 30, 1929 at Trenton to Garland Morrison, who preceded her in death on Oct. 23,1947.
Mrs. Morrison is survived by two sons, Rodney Morrison and Judson Morrison and his wife, Beverly, of Gentry, AR; one brother, Lowell Coon and his wife, Sally, of Bartlesville, OK; four grandchildren and there spouses. Cheryl and Linn Rice, Debi and Brad Holyrod, Lisa and Sam Moulton and Michelle and David Green; five great-grandchildren ; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Delores Morrison; one grandson, Bryan Morrison; one sister, Lucille Axtell; and two brothers, Gerald Coon and Russell Coon.
