The Tri-County R-7 Board of Education made over $130,000 in budget cuts for the 2004-2005 school year and accepted a full waiver of the Missouri School Improvement Review during a meeting Thursday evening.
According to information provided by Superintendent Ron Garber, the board made cuts of $137,603 for the 2004-2005 school year. The areas cut include supplies, elimination of mileage payments, technical maintenance, capital projects, reduction of textbook purchases, lowering the amount paid for the career ladder stages, increasing athletic admission prices and the price of the yearbook and elimination of the elementary counselor position.
The district agreed to accept a full waiver from the Missouri School Improvement Program, which will allow the district to go through a modified MSIP review in the spring of 2006. If Tri-County does not meet the performance standards during any school year, a full MSIP review will occur 18 months from the date of notification.
In other business, the board approved policy updates and the 2004-2005 school calendar, which shows school starting on Aug. 25 and ending on May 18. In addition, a snow make-up day for this year was set for May 20. Any more days missed will be added to the end of the school year. The board designated the Grand River Technical School as the area school for Tri-County vocational students.
Administrative contracts for the 2004-2005 school year were offered to Toni Cox, elementary principal, and Troy Clawson, high school principal. Salaries will remain the same.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 10 at 7 p.m.
