The Grundy County Commission discussed the need for the removal of water gaps on the county?s bridges during its regular meeting Tuesday morning.
Road and Bridge Supervisor Darrell Plumb met with the commission, bringing pictures that show how the water gaps, used to keep livestock contained, are causing damage where they are used on county bridges. The water gaps collect debris, which then changes the water channel and damage the back wall of the structure. Plumb said state inspectors have indicated that the gaps need to be removed and commissioners said it will take quite a bit of money to remove the water gaps and make needed repairs. Property owners who have water gaps are asked to remove them themselves, if possible.
