Leonard Crawford, a 72-year-old resident of Trenton, died early today (Monday, Feb. 9, 2004) at his home at 1808 Crestview Terrace. He was a former Trenton businessman.

Leonard Crawford, a 72-year-old resident of Trenton, died early today (Monday, Feb. 9, 2004) at his home at 1808 Crestview Terrace. He was a former Trenton businessman.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Burial will be at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.

A visitation is planned from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at the mortuary.

Mr. Crawford was born on June 19, 1931 in Spickard, the son of Vern and Ruth Cooper Crawford. He was raised in Spickard and began working at the D-X filling station owned by Ray and Bill Coon. He later owned and operated the station as Crawford’s D-X for many years before coming to Trenton in the mid-1960’s, where he worked for Gene McKay at Gene’s MFA for many years. He purchased that station and operated it as Crawford’s MFA for 17 years. He had been employed at People’s Co-Op in Trenton the past seven years.

He was married on Jan. 3, 1951 to Amber Stevens at Trenton. He was married on Dec. 30, 1981 at Trenton to Connie Stamper Devorss, who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a step-son, Joe Devorss and his wife, Sarah, of Spickard; two step-daughters, Sue Knapp of Trenton and Kay Erlinger of St. Charles; two brothers, Gordon Crawford of Spickard and Gene Crawford and his wife, Janet, of Nixa; nine step-grandchildren, Joseph, Charly, Paige and Wynne Devorss, Jenna Owens, Jacoby and Justin Knapp, Natalie Hall and Jacob Erlinger; a sister-in-law, Delia Mae Crawford of Trenton; two brothers-in-law, Junior Stamper and his wife, Peggy, of Spickard and Ronnie Stamper and his wife, Donna, of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steve Crawford; two brothers, Jack and Raymond Crawford; and one sister, Twila Crawford.
